Companies and designers are called upon to enter their current achievements for Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014, which opened on 11 November. There are 23 product categories this year, covering the entire spectrum of modern design – from interior design to ‘Babies and children’ to consumer electronics.

Red Dot has been a symbol of product excellence for various areas of the industry for more than half a century. This next round will evaluate which products are ground-breaking in the international arena, and they will receive the sought-after quality seal.

For Red Dot Award: Product Design in 2013, architects, designers and manufacturing companies from 54 countries submitted close to 4700 products, illustrating the magnitude of the international relevance of the competition.

With a jury of more than 30 experts in 2014, to stand out in the selection, participants must captivate the jury with outstanding design quality and innovative solutions. Each product will be evaluated live and on site in Essen, Germany.

“The importance of a competition is defined only by its credibility,” says Red Dot initiator and CEO Prof. Dr. Peter Zec. “Clear criteria for granting awards, jury members with integrity as well as excellent framework conditions for product presentation are the characteristics of the Red Dot. With the great reliability that these factors ensure, our award has been uncovering design excellence in all conceivable product areas for a period of almost 60 years now.”

The most convincing projects will receive the renowned Red Dot and play in the top league of design. The winners will gain the respect of the international design scene, as well as the highest degree of attention for outstanding design quality.

The best achievements will be honoured on 7 July 2014 during the traditional Red Dot Gala in Essen’s opera house.

After this, all products will be exhibited for four weeks in ‘Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014’ in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen.
