The new Red Dot museum was opened on 30 August by Peter Zec, CEO of Red Dot. The new design museum is located in an old industrial area. The historical Songshan Tobacco factory features an interior designed by the renowned Taiwanese designer, Cheng Chung Yao.

“The first Red Dot Design Museum was opened in Essen, Germany, in 1997. The success of this ever-changing exhibition of contemporary design in a historical building was repeated with the opening of the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore in 2005. Now, eight years later, we are proud to make Taipei the home town of the third museum that will showcase award-winning, modern products in the inspiring atmosphere of a former industrial area, and that will bring the world of design closer to the public,” said Zec.

From 31 August to 3 November 2013, the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei is showcasing two design exhibitions:

  • Every product tells a story is inspired by the quote by American entrepreneur Henry Ford who said, “Every object tells a story, if you know how to read it.” The exhibition features everyday products and the design stories behind them, giving visitors direct insight into the design process behind the creation of the products, where the design ideas came from and how they were applied to each product.
  • Style your life is about design as an aesthetic expression of consumer society and how by purchasing and using design items, we decorate our bodies and make a visual statement about ourselves and the environment we live in. The exhibition takes products that have won a Red Dot Design Award and demonstrates how these products inform our lives and can underscore our personality – with a focus on eyewear, jewellery and watches. The exhibition also presents current trends in furniture, lighting and bathroom design.
