It used to be that quality required time – time that was not spent in defining and designing what was to be made, but in the making of the single piece itself.

Dutch designer Tord Boontje took his romantic style to an extreme for Meta, a company dedicated to combining exquisite materials, master artisanship and contemporary design, by creating a truly monumental piece that seemed to leap out of a Pre-Raphaelite painting.
The Big Fig wardrobe is like a silent renaissance garden that opens its fig-leaf-encrusted doors to reveal a delicate bronze tree against a background of silk. Its 616 enamelled glass leaves are hand-painted and suspending from a complicated tangle of vines, which required the design of a mapping and hanging system.
