The first of the five yachts to be turned into a fully seaworthy vessel is JAZZ. Hadid and the engineers from Blohm+Voss worked together to address the practical challenges of designing a yacht while remaining true to the design language of the master prototype.

This design language is undeniably true to Hadid’s signature style – boldly contemporary, organic and innovative. The exoskeleton structure features an interwoven network of supports that connect the various levels and decks.

“As a dynamic object that moves in dynamic environments, the design of a yacht must incorporate additional parameters beyond those for architecture – which all become much more extreme on water,”
explains Hadid. “Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality and safety.”

As a blueprint, this fluid design language can be adapted to the remaining four yachts depending on the owner’s preferences.

“Zaha Hadid’s design is malleable to suit the very individual wishes and needs of a potential customer, which lies at the heart of Blohm+Voss’ approach to yacht design,” says Dr Herbert Aly, CEO and managing partner of Blohm+Voss. “The strength of the design lies not just in its functionality and form, but also its effortless adaptability.”

While a bold and striking design like this certainly won’t come cheap, it will no doubt make a statement on the waves.
